Yachting is more than a vacation. When you step onboard, it becomes a lifestyle.

Discovering… Palma, with Purobeach

This week, we hear from the inimitable Purobeach Club in Palma de Mallorca, on their best insider tips for this superyachting mecca.

Firstly, a big hola from Palma de Mallorca. This, the Balearics’ most buzzing city is where Europe comes to shop, party and sip cocktails in the setting sun.

But the real Palma scene is insiders-only. Only those truly in-the-know will know where to look in our old town for experimental tapas bars that rival El Bulli.  On our coast are beach clubs so secret that you need a GPS.  Want us to share our tips with superyacht broker Y.CO and friends? De nada, check out the below and we’ll see you there!

THE INSIDERS’ GUIDE TO PALMA

In a nutshell: Sophisticated parties, local charm and killer cuisine
Best for: Yachting chic and gourmands
When to go: From May to September
Surpise me: Spain’s Michelin reputation is held up in force here

For sundowners, Bar Cuba is a century-old Palma classic. Think salsa, Hemingway and colonial wicker chairs and you’re halfway there. Or, Garito Café has been hopping since the 1970s.  Here, the early evening jazz sounds even better with a killer mojito, and their boiled octopus with mashed potato is a local favourite.

A fish creation from Fosh

An unmissable Palma treat are pintxos. These bar-top bites run from silver-skinned anchovies wrapped around a piquillo pepper to towering skewers of swordfish and chorizo. For culinary experimentation hit Fosh.  Marc Fosh became the first Englishman in Spain to win a Michelin star with dishes like Andalucian salmorejo soup with strawberries and lychees.  The Financial Times How To Spend It anointed his cuisine ‘sublime’, and he has one of the island’s only private dining options too.

The view from Il Paradiso

There’s more formality at Il Paradiso, just up from the royal family’s summer home at Marivent.  Swedish chef Peter Axelsson arrived here in 2008 to meld Scandinavian precision, Italian recipes and Iberian ingredients. Harbour views sublime; marinated beef carpaccio with capers even better.

Of course, our own Puro restaurant is an oasis urbano – an urban oasis. In Palma style many guests slurp glasses of Rioja, out langoustine tempura with their fingers, and kick of their shoes while dining,

Sunset at Purobeach

Ciertamente, you must visit Purobeach. It’s been voted the best beach bar in the world, and we’ll even pick you up from your superyacht.  Tell your captain to look out for a rocky peninsula stocked with white sun loungers and a blacked out swimming pool. It’s privacy personified, and the BBQ is already on.

We are also happy to open Purobeach Porto Montenegro this June. It’s like Palma, plus you can detox in our big yoga centre, or simply retox with rakia.

Thank you to the Purobeach team for their contribution.  For more information on luxury yacht charter in Palma, please contact the Y.CO charter team.
