AROUND THE WORLD IN 585 DAYS
Tûranor Planet Solar – the largest solar powered yacht in the world – arrived in the Port of Monaco this afternoon after a world tour which took her two years to complete. Her crew of 4 has navigated Planet Solar around the world’s oceans for 585 days. Monaco marks the finale of her incredible voyage as she returns to the place where her epic journey began.
Launched in March 2012 after 14 months of construction, the catamaran runs solely on solar energy with the help of 537 m2 of photovoltaic surface. There’s certainly no mistaking her futuristic profile. http://www.planetsolar.org/
We are seeing ecological consideration move to the forefront of modern superyacht design. While more conservative to look at, yachts like the luxury charter sailboat Ethereal also mark huge progress in the future of green superyachting.
