This week sees two wonderful Royal Huisman creations become available for sale for the first time. We take an in depth look at 90m S/Y Athena and J-Class S/Y Hanuman.
Built by the Dutch shipyard to Lloyds class in 2004, the beautiful luxury sailing yacht Athena is the culmination of four years of spirited teamwork, combining the unique talents of Pieter Beeldsnijder for exterior and interior design with the flawless naval architectural skills of Gerard Dijkstra & Partners.
With these two talented legends and Royal Huisman’s own group of dedicated craftspeople, a dream team of luxury yacht construction was formed. Since her launch, Athena has undoubtedly become part of yachting history.
The three mast schooner rig by Rondal provides some 2,500 sq. m of sail power and is complete with in mast furling for the topsails and in boom furling for the carbon fiber gaffs.
Using Alustar plate mast construction, the tallest of Athena’s three masts fits snugly, at low tide, through Panama’s controlling bridge height of 62m. A thrilling trip up the mast in one of the superyacht’s hydraulically operated crow’s nests gives the adventurous a bird’s eye view over an expanse of teak decking.
A resurrection of the spirited golden age of sail, at 90m (295ft), Athena is the 4th largest sailing yacht in the world. Dwarfing even most other superyachts, she can outrun most of them too – at speeds of up to 19 knots her size does nothing to impede her efficiency.
A leviathan though she may be, Athena’s timeless interior makes an intimate playground for up to ten guests. She is now for the first time on the market, asking $95,000,000 and exclusively for sale through Y.CO.
Hanuman is the modern recreation of Tommy Sopwith’s beautiful 41.3m/135.5’ Super-J class yacht, Endeavour II.
Launched in 2009, this luxury sail yacht made waves across the superyacht industry, being named Sailing Yacht of the Year at the 2010 World Superyacht awards. In Hanuman, an owner will realise the ultimate combination of beauty and quality of construction.
Naval architects Gerard Dijkstra & Partners created an Alustar hull with spars and rig in carbon composite to create a yacht that reaches the full potential of Charles E. Nicholson’s original design. To further this ambition, renowned shipyard Royal Huisman worked with the naval architects, the independent Carew Group, master sailmakers North Sails and spar makers Rondal to create the optimum mast and sail configuration.
Below decks, interior designer Pieter Beeldsnijder chose traditional materials such as hand-polished French Walnut, and period design references to capture the warmth and opulence of a bygone era, sensitively fused with the modern amenities expected on a contemporary superyacht.
Hanuman is race-prepared and ready to perform. Offering accommodation for 6 guests in 3 cabins, this incredible luxury racing yacht is exclusively for sale through Y.CO.
Please note that neither Athena nor Hanuman is available for sale or charter to US residents while in US waters.
